Text Box: This web site shows nearly sixty of Cheyenne’s
fallen landmarks, reminders of this city historical past.

Many were demolished after they’d fallen into disrepair due to neglect, either inadvertent or purposeful.

Cheyenne has become pox-marked with vacant lots, parking lots,
and inappropriate structures for the neighborhood.
Poor zoning can be attributed to the unbridled lack of city planning.

Today’s Cheyenne City Council has hired out of state consultants to facilitate “Plan Cheyenne” in an effort to drastically reduce poor zoning in the future. It’s designed to make Cheyenne a better place to live and to attract new business and industry.

“Plan Cheyenne”, however, must include our historic past and consider preserving remaining structures.
The State of Wyoming is taking an active role in preservation
with its “Main Street” promotion.

The well-respected True West magazine for January 2009 selected Cheyenne as their #1 True Western city
based almost entirely on Cheyenne’s preservation efforts
with only a cursory mention of Frontier Days.

Those involved with the Save Old Cheyenne Coalition are not intending to stop commerce. Rather to ask those involved with the possible destruction or the moving of important structures, creating dramatic changes in our designated historic districts, to consider other alternatives such as those of other close cities.

Consider rejuvenating the buildings and its neighborhood
into useful and purposeful areas of Cheyenne
as the City Council is intending.
